Singapore AIDS Conference 2020
Empowering Communities to End HIV and AIDS
A biennial meeting dedicated to all aspects of HIV, the Singapore AIDS Conference (SAC) celebrated its 13th year in 2022. The conference provides a platform where healthcare professionals, researchers, public health officials, community partners, policymakers, PLHIV, key populations and affected communities can come together to take stock of the situation and share new knowledge and information that can stop the spread of HIV, address HIV-related stigma and discrimination, and improve care and support for PLHIV.
Held on 10th December 2022, The 13th SAC aimed to build on the momentum of the previous conference to invigorate and energise our programmes to end HIV in Singapore. The theme of the conference was Empowering Communities to end HIV and AIDS and aimed to focus on strategies necessary to achieve the UNAIDS extended targets of 95-95-95 to end HIV and highlight the role being played by various stakeholders towards this.
In 2022, after COVID-19, we were back with an on-venue conference which was held at the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine auditorium at Nanyang Technological University. The morning sessions of the conference focused on structural barriers in addressing HIV and what community-led programmes are doing to empower and engage communities with HIV prevention, testing and treatment programmes to end HIV. The afternoon sessions examined biomedical strategies to end HIV including an update on the science of HIV and PrEP strategies. There were two international speakers: Ms Jules Kim from the Global Network of Sex Work Projects and Scarlett Alliance Australia and Dr Jillian Lau from the University of Melbourne.
The conference was attended by over 200 people. AfA remains thankful to industry sponsors for their support for the conference. The campaign tagline is ‘With early and effective treatment people living with HIV can lead lives no different from others.’
