As we approach World AIDS Day at every last quarter of the year, honour the legacy of Paddy Chew by supporting people living with HIV (PLHIV).
Paddy Chew Empowerment Fund (PCEF) was established in 1998 and is AfA’s longest-running subsidy programme. It is named after Paddy Chew, the first Singaporean who publicly shared their HIV status to challenge stigma and raise awareness.
Grounded in the principles of GIPA (Greater Involvement of People Living with HIV/AIDS), AfA supports PLHIV who give back to the community by participating in educational activities and HIV awareness talks. In doing so, they help us reach and influence more people, and at the same time are voices for other PLHIV.
In conjunction with World AIDS Day, this fundraising project seeks to rally collective support for PLHIV in Singapore. The fund provides critical financial assistance to help alleviate the cost of living, including access to essential anti-retroviral medications – some of which remain classified as standard drugs locally, posing a significant financial burden that can affect treatment adherence.
