Singapore AIDS Candlelight Memorial 2023 – Spread Love and Solidarity to Build Stronger Communities

Spread Love and Solidarity to Build Stronger Communities” – A day and opportunity to go INWARD, LISTEN, LEARN, and ACT!

International AIDS Candlelight Memorial will be held on Sunday, 21st May 2023. This year’s theme is “Spread Love and Solidarity to Build Stronger Communities” – it is a day and an opportunity to go INWARD, LISTEN, LEARN, and ACT!

It is a day to remember and celebrate the lives lost to AIDS, to honour those who have dedicated their lives to helping people living with and affected by HIV, and to build solidarity in our communities. On this day, many across the world unite to raise awareness about HIV with the focus on breaking down stigma within our communities.

People living with HIV (PLHIV) experience persistent stigma and discrimination that can lead to feelings of shame, self-doubt, and isolation, preventing them from seeking the care and support they need. By addressing stigma, we can help stop negative language around HIV transmission, bust myths and misinformation about life with HIV, and end HIV stigma and discrimination.

So, this year, we urge you to get engaged in supporting the fight against HIV stigma and discrimination and empower communities infected and affected by HIV. Whatever you do, whether it is lighting a candle or writing a letter of support , please join us.

Together, on Sunday, 21st May, let us take a bold step towards a world free from stigma, where every single person living with HIV is valued, respected, appreciated, and thriving, and where everyone believes they are loved, accepted, and included in society.

Building  A Stronger Community: Living well with HIV.

Undetectable = Untransmittable means that PLHIV who are on anti-retroviral therapy (ART) and have an undetectable viral load  cannot transmit the virus to their sexual partner. Achieving undetectable status is the goal for newly diagnosed Persons with HIV. The time needed to become undetectable after starting ART can vary and is roughly 3 to 4 months.

PLHIV on ART can lead healthy and productive lives like everyone else and is achievable through early diagnosis and linkage to treatment and care..
