Section 377A strengthens and perpetuates stigma and discrimination of Men-who-have-sex-with-men (MSM) and Persons Living with HIV/AIDS (PLHIV), and Action for AIDS firmly believes that the repeal of Section 377A will significantly strengthen HIV and STI Control Programmes in Singapore, not just for the gay and other homosexual men, but indeed for everyone.
It is with great sadness that we learned of the passing away of Benjamin Bernice Gho. He used to front several local gay bar, namely MOX and Does Your Mother Know (DYMK) and a “mother” to many.
We in AfA who have known him closely are still trying to come to terms with this sad, tragic news. We have known Ben for many years and are devastated to learn of his passing.
As the year draw to a close, we would like to take this chance to look back on a wonderful year, filled with activities, sweat and joy.
So here’s a huge thank you to all our volunteers, members and advocates. We couldn’t have done it without you. Let’s do it (even) better in 2015.

HIV infection is spreading rapidly in our community. In 2013 56% of the newly detected HIV infections were among gay and other men who have sex with men (MSM). We estimate that over 5% of all MSM in Singapore are HIV infected. The situation is especially urgent because HIV is infecting more young men, many of whom have not yet started their careers.
Effective information and prevention programmes are needed to slow down the spread of HIV. We are therefore seeking to improve our understanding of sexual health behaviour and attitudes. The Information you provide in this survey is anonymous and will assist us and our partners to plan programmes and deliver services to meet your needs, and the needs of other MSM.
The gay and MSM community is experiencing increasing numbers diagnosed with HIV infection every year. Many of the MSM who are diagnosed are young (29 years and below).
We would like to take this opportunity to invite our community stakeholders to come together, as a community, for a meeting to discuss the issue of HIV and MSM in Singapore and to hopefully come up with new & better ideas to stop the spread of the infection and to assist those with HIV./AIDS amongst us.
This event will be held just before Pink Dot and will be a timely call for action to keep all members of our community in good health.
